SIX NATIONS: An appeal for Turtle Island-wide solidarity and action

One year is too long! Recognize the rights of Six Nations!

[For more information about contacting provincial and federal authorities, please scroll below ...]

February 28th, 2007 marks the one-year anniversary of the Six Nations Land Reclamation. One year ago, a group of people from Six Nations took back a piece of their land that was under construction by developers and demanded an end to the destruction of their land and to settler encroachment on their territory.

Now, one year later, the Canadian government has yet to recognize the truth: that this land is not owned by them nor can it be sold by them. It is Haudonausaunee (Iroquois) territory, stolen and sold by the colonial authorities illegally.

Two Voices from the Laval Immigration Detention Center

Dear friends and allies -- A Solidarity Across Borders organizer who
regularly visits the Laval Immigration Detention Center (official
name: "Centre de prévention de l'immigration de Laval") has received
handwritten letters from two detainees. These detainees have
specifically asked that their letters to be shared more widely with
migrant justice allies, and want their messages to reach human rights
groups and activists.

PHOTO ESSAYS (June 2005-December 2007)

Since the "No One Is Illegal March on Ottawa" in June 2005, Solidarity Across Borders has continued to be active in support of our main demands: the regularization of all non-status people; an end to deportations and detentions; and, the abolition of security certificates. We've also organized in support of the demands and campaigns of our allies.

[Photos from the recent Solidarity BBQ with Kader are linked at: Solidarity BBQ Photos

[Sorry, the film night was postponed. E-mail sansfrontieres@resist.ca for details about when the film night will take place.]

Abdelkader "Kader" Belaouni is an Algerian refugee who took sanctuary in St. Gabriel's Church in Point St. Charles, Montreal, to avoid his imminent deportation. Kader has been in sanctuary for over 6 months. He and his supporters demand the regularization of his status immediately.

Join the Committee to Support Abdelkader Belaouni for an evening of cinema in the park. We will be featuring "Citizen Steps", a film about the "No One is Illegal March on Ottawa" in June 2005.

Farah Kulmiyeh Abdil "Surprise Action": 13 Years Without Status

In a "Surprise Action" members of Solidarity Across Borders supported Farah Kulmiyeh Abdil, a Somali refugee, who took direct action against the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) on Wednesday, 12 June. Farah chained himself inside Complexe Guy-Favreaux, IRB headquarters.

The Facts About Immigration Canada, Monte Solberg and the Conservatives

[The following is the text of a flyer distributed at the disruption of Immigration Minister Monte Solberg's scheduled speech in Ottawa on May 31, 2006.]

WHY WE’RE PROTESTING?

We are here to directly address Canada's Immigration Minister Monte Solberg.

We come to Ottawa today for all our friends and neighbors who have been deported, detained, forced underground, forced into sanctuary, or victimized by security certificates.

We have learned from experience that struggling for dignity and justice means we must disrupt and be assertive to have our voices meaningfully heard. That often means being impolite.

Why we are marching!

Why we are marching!

WHY WE ARE MARCHING ...

We are marching to demonstrate against the deportation and detention of migrants and refugees, and for a comprehensive, inclusive regularization program, meaning STATUS FOR ALL.

We are marching from downtown Montreal, through Chinatown, the Main, Mile-End, Little Italy and Parc Extension, ending at Kent Park in Côte-des-Neiges. We march as part of a national day of protest for immigrant rights, joining demonstrations in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and elsewhere. We march almost one-year after we walked for one week from Montreal to Ottawa to demand justice and dignity for all migrants and refugees.
