Urgent: Keep up the pressure to stop Paola Ortiz’s deportation! And spread the word!
Following an enormous show of public support for Paola Ortiz, immigration authorities have temporarily postponed the deportation of the mom of two young Canadian children, originally scheduled for this morning, after medical personnel at Trudeau airport deemed her too unwell to travel.
Now more than ever it is essential to step up the pressure on federal authorities to suspend her pending deportation to Mexico, a country she fled in 2006 to escape a situation of sexual and conjugal violence of the part of her then-fiance, a federal officer in the Mexican police.
Please keep up the calls and emails to the feds! And spread the word via your email lists and social networks!

Your flood of phone calls and emails, and the overwhelming support expressed in a public declaration signed by more than 25 community groups and more than 100 of Paola’s neighbours and community members are already bearing fruit.
Her NDP MP in Point St. Charles, Tyrone Benskin, confirmed today to Solidarity Across Borders that he has spoken to both the Ministers of Immigration and Public Safety, and is appealing for their intervention. And the office of removals director Julie Thibodeau was overwhelmed with calls from Paola’s supporters! Trudeau airport was also overrun this morning by Paola’s friends, neighbours and members of Solidarity Across Borders, as well as a strong showing of TV and radio journalists who are closely covering our mobilization against yesterday’s decision to go forward with this outrageous deportation that will break up a Montreal family, and rob two special needs Canadian citizens, aged 2 and 4, of their mother.
